If you’ve liked my page on Facebook or follow me on Instagram, you may already have seen that I travelled to Leicester earlier this year for a streetstyle commercial fashion photoshoot for SkeletonJack666.
Inspired by tattoo artists, Jack has been designing dark art and illustrations inspired by the macabre, taro and demonology for over ten years. In September last year he decided to take the plunge with the independent start-up label SkeletonJack66 and he now sells his cloths and art prints online.
I had never photographed in the Leicester city centre before, but I realise I totally missed out: Leicester is actually incredibly photogenic. Our base for the day were the studio premises of Inkling Tattoo. The rugged area surrounding the tattoo shop, with street art meeting the surfaced textures of brick and wood are enough to make a photographer’s heart sing.
Anup from Leicester was the only male model, so he had a busy day! He was the first to arrive and we headed out into the streets while the other models were still getting ready. We were lucky to be graced by beautiful soft sunlight before lunchtime. Anup was a natural at modelling the rugged style we needed, so we got through the first couple of outfits in record time.
Meanwhile the ladies had their make up done by the wonderful Iysh Gill. Didn’t she do an amazing job?
Priya, a student from Coventry, was the first of the women to finish with the make-up so we headed out for a few individual photos as well as some images of her posing with Anup. Priya is absolutely gorgeous and has the most beautiful, thick and long hair - but you can imagine she didn’t have an easy job as the wind picked up!
Next up was Amy, who slipped into modelling the alternative style as if she’d never done anything else. I was extremely impressed with both Priya and Amy, who had the most professional attitude and did not need much direction despite their young age.
The last model to have her make-up done by Iysh was Paula Jewel, who travelled all the way from Peterborough to join us on the day. As an absolute pro with modelling experience, Paula was a delight to work with and had an impressive repertoire of poses ready.
On a personal level, I really enjoyed the setting and the styling of the day so much. I may not look the part (anymore), but somewhere deep down in me there's still a Grunge-y kid that wears too much eyeliner and idolises Kurt Cobain.
